Founded by Jamila EL HEMAM and Saâd BENKIRANE, TRACES was built around projects of a wide variety of programs, locations and scales.
Each project is an exploration and investigation aimed at creating spaces that are in harmony with the territory, climate, local economy and daily life of residents and users.
We have been focusing our thinking on a reasoned architecture since the beginning. This commitment gives our agency’s achievements a depth that marks the desire to put elements into the territory in a sustainable way.
TRACES means: Fingerprint or sequence of fingerprints, marks, which leaves the passage of a being or an object.
An architectural project is the fruit of multidisciplinary skills, and we strongly believe in the strength of collaboration.
TRACES relies on an international network of privileged partners, developed over the years and collaborations on different projects. We share our experiences and desires and mix our project cultures. This synergy of ideas and skills enriches our projects and takes our work to the next level.
Based in Casablanca since 1996, the Traces agency is currently carrying out many major projects in Morocco and West Africa, including Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon.

Jamila El Hemam is a HQE certified architect and graduated from the Ecole Supérieure d’Architecture de Grenoble and the University of Louvain-la-Neuve. From the light of Tangier to that of Grenoble, the contrast is such and the lack so strong that it has oriented the work of architect Jamila El Hemam. A constant search underpinned by the desire to understand the intimate relationship between natural light and architecture.
Saâd Benkirane
D.E.S.A ARCHITECT
Saâd Benkirane, a graduate of the Ecole Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris in 1993, is an independent architect, partner of the Traces agency and since 2011 certified in design «Green Building & High Environmental Quality» (André De Herde- Director of the Architecture & Climate Unit, University of Louvain La Neuve). He was the winner of the competition “A place for a global world” for young architects under 40.
