A large «modernist» house, set on a green carpet in the middle of a lunar landscape, which characterizes the surroundings of the ochre city.
It is inspired by the spirit of local architecture, with the stacking of rooms, the roof terraces and the ability of the brick masses to protect from a harsh climate.
The house distills space in its horizontal planes that glide through the transparencies of the glass. The only vertical is that of the fireplace, which is a supporting and structuring element of the house.
The plan design reveals other contrasts: the garden crosses in soft movements, almost without being noticed, the whole house erected in right angles. The living room is the heart of the house and the cross plan allows the four extensions of the rooms to receive both natural lighting and cross ventilation. The living room connects the children’s wing to the rest of the house, creating a patio away from the sand and heat, refreshed by the presence of water.
However the arms of this composition, formed by the rooms and patios reveal a specific social order. The privacy of guests, children and guests is perfectly protected. They can find themselves in the sun-sheltered alleys, the common area and the outdoor patios. Also the choice to build walls in local dry stone, inside and outside, to create a light dark effect adding to the softness of other details.
