“A Monumental Gateway Between Heaven and Heritage”

The new Terminal 3 project stands out as a major architectural landmark, reinterpreting Tangier’s identity to create a magnificent gateway to Africa. Drawing its strength from the city’s history, the concept pays homage to Bab Diwana, the historic gate that once welcomed the first travelers arriving on the continent.

Heritage as Signature
At the heart of the infrastructure, the central patio becomes the project’s regulating organ. A true urban oasis punctuated by fountains and traditional zellige tiles, it structures the flow of people while offering a sensory respite. This inspiration extends to the details of the landing platforms, whose color palette celebrates the craftsmanship of Jbala women (Mendil and Chachiya), anchoring the terminal in its local area.

An Architecture of Light and Wind

Conceived as a “functional work of art,” the iconic vaulted roof does more than simply create an avant-garde silhouette. It is the driving force behind an ambitious bioclimatic strategy:

  • Natural Light: The spaces are bathed in the unique light that has captivated generations of painters.
  • Natural Ventilation: The structure promotes passive air circulation, drastically reducing the carbon footprint while ensuring optimal thermal comfort.

The Premium Traveler Experience
The terminal transforms transit into a cultural immersion. Between soothing interior gardens, panoramic views of the runways, and fluid spaces in beige tones, every traveler benefits from an inclusive and universal design. More than just a transport infrastructure, this project is a showcase of Moroccan modernity: a perfect balance between high environmental performance and the timeless elegance of Tangier’s culture.

Materials | The Hall
A palette of colors and materials reminiscent of the neutrality and understated elegance of the dense, reassuring walls of the Kasbah in Tangier. The wood, a nod to the ceilings of the medina’s houses, often evokes positive feelings and emotions due to its natural and warm qualities.
This beige ambiance, encompassing both floor and walls, creates a welcoming atmosphere and a sense of comfort and harmony.

Materials | The Patio
“Zellige” is a traditional element of Moroccan architecture, and we wanted to integrate it into the new terminal as a reference, not only for its historical and cultural significance, but also as a contribution to the preservation of Moroccan heritage.

Materials | The Dock
The embarkation and disembarkation dock will be a place to celebrate Tangier’s art and culture. We drew inspiration from the “Mendil and Chachiya”, the traditional attire of Jbala women, to define the materials and color palette of this space.
A predominantly beige ambiance, with zellige tilework reminiscent of the stripes of these fabrics, used sparingly. In this space, we will avoid visual overload. Simplicity is the key to elegance.
