Context
Designing hospital architecture in remote areas. Architecture with meaning as a public necessity.« Where spaces are adapted to the climate, local materials, uses and traditions, architecture is sustainable».
Architectural Concept
This hospital is primarily a “healing” hospital, a hospital that lasts and is operational all the time. That’s why we designed an architecture that emanates from the earth and is built with the expertise of its inhabitants. Building with the intelligent use of local materials to adapt and respond to climate.
An architecture that also does not forget that the sick deserve a building of quality and comfortable spaces.
With the use of simple and geometric shapes, CHUR develops on a single level and its design follows a typology called comb. The presence of planted courtyards or gardens lined with galleries, thus offers breathing spaces benefiting from natural lighting and ventilation.
This morphological choice – very common in Africa in the 50s – thus takes on a local social dimension, which allowed families to come in groups and even prepare meals for the sick.
