A project that is evolving and can be adapted
Project of «design construction and equipment» of 8 hospitals with 150 beds in the 8 capitals of the Province of Cameroon.
The request was to create an evolutionary concept that is likely to be declined different topographies; flat terrain, sloping terrain, level ground or R+1 or R+2 and taking into account the Tropical climate with its (very) heavy rains
We have proposed with our partners L35 and Casa Solo, a particularly sharp reflection on the need to introduce in such equipment a human, social and ecological dimension.
To carry out such a project, we have preferred the approach of “more design” and less “technology”. Taking into account the climate, topography, the desire to strengthen the local economy by promoting the country’s workforce and know-how in construction, the use of renewable resources, the search for sustainable solutions (over time) and economic impact of the project.
The design of hospitals in Cameroon is based on a passive climate design that allows to be free of any air conditioning system despite the extreme heat that the region faces. The modules by their small width, barely 8 meters, the building can be ventilated and refreshed naturally in a transverse way by the semi-open facades overlooking green patios.
The overall plan is composed of a series of parallel pavilions, clearly identified and connected by galleries that surround each patio.
Covered and closed traffic links horizontally between the pavilions, with access to ensure public circulation or technical connection. In the project, the presence of planted courtyards or gardens lined with galleries, thus offers breathing spaces benefiting from natural lighting and ventilation.
